World Book Day & Earth Day 2026
Innova Primary School Celebrates World Book Day & Earth Day 2026
Innova Primary School was filled with excitement and creativity as students and staff came together to celebrate World Book Day (WBD) and Earth Day through a week of engaging activities centered on reading, storytelling, and environmental awareness.
On Monday, 20 April, students and staff dressed in blue and green to show appreciation for our Earth and kick-start the celebrations. The school was filled with vibrant colours as everyone came together to support the Earth Day message.
Leading up to the celebrations, students participated in the Family Storytime Showdown, where families submitted creative video performances based on their favourite stories. Students also took part in the “From Trash to Treasure: The Journey of an Item” Writing Challenge, where they transformed discarded household items into imaginative stories about recycling and upcycling while incorporating important iSTAR values.
To promote sustainable habits, students contributed pre-loved books for the “Share a Book, Save the Earth” Book Exchange Initiative, encouraging the values of sharing, reusing, and giving books a new life.
A key highlight of the celebrations was the assembly programme held on Thursday, 23 April, featuring invited guest speaker Mr Neil Humphreys. Through his engaging storytelling session themed “Say Yes To Waste Less”, students learned meaningful lessons about environmental responsibility and the importance of reducing waste.
Students also enjoyed the much-anticipated Book Character Costume Parade, where every class selected two representatives to showcase creative costumes inspired by their favourite storybook characters. Many costumes were thoughtfully designed using recycled and reused materials, reflecting both creativity and environmental awareness.
Throughout the week, students participated in hands-on activities at the Interactive Story Stations in the library and enjoyed exciting recess activities at the EL Arcade, including recycling-themed board games, Kahoot quizzes, interactive polls, and Q&A challenges about reducing waste and recycling.
The week-long celebration was a joyful reminder that stories can inspire change and that everyone can play a part in caring for our Earth.
